Resourcing Movements, Redistributing Power
ROP strengthens social justice movements in New England by supporting movement fundraisers and donors.
WHY IT MATTERS
Our times call for
strong movements.
Our Movements Need Money to Win.
Traditional nonprofit funding models weren’t built for grassroots groups who organize for racial, economic, gender, and climate justice. Too often, movement organizations depend on a small number of funders to pay staff, buy technology and materials, and rent space. Movement leaders end up stuck in a cycle of grant applications that can
- Pit organizations against each other
- Pull leaders away from their core work
- Force choices between bold strategy and keeping the lights on
Our movements are less powerful as a result.
WHAT WE DO
ROP’s Intervention
Our purpose is to realign funding practices with movement values and expand the pie of resources controlled by movements.
That’s why we work with frontline movement leaders across New England to shift the way we fundraise through a three-part strategy:
- Build a community of movement fundraisers across the six New England states.
- Strengthen the fundraising capacity of movement organizations through training, coaching, and popular education.
- Mobilize resources collaboratively and expand the pie of resources available for movement building.
