Who We Are

Resource Organizing Project (ROP) is a New England regional movement infrastructure project and a network of movement fundraisers.

ROP is an offering of the Movement Sustainability Commons

Our Story

ROP emerged from a decade of experiments that combined grassroots fundraising and community building.

We launched in 2021 as an infrastructure project for movement fundraising in our region. We expanded rapidly in our first two years, with new capacity building offerings and dozens of new partners. Since 2023, we’ve been building the strategic and structural foundation for ROP to accompany frontline movement partners, funders, and donors in our region for the long-haul.

In our journey so far, we’ve been adapting to the needs of our partners in a shifting political environment and proving that when resources are organized differently, movements are stronger and more sustainable.

Our Purpose & Values

ROP strengthens movements for justice and liberation in New England by supporting and organizing movement fundraisers and donors.

As a regional movement infrastructure project, our role is to partner with fundraisers at frontline movement groups, values-aligned funders, and cross-class donors to fully resource movements and shift fundraising practice toward movement values.

We are guided by seven core values that shape what we do:

Abundance

Believing we CAN access the resources for movements to thrive.

Interdependence

Building networks of mutual support rather than isolation and competition.

Sustainability

Keeping our eye on organizational health and movement longevity.

Experimentation

Innovating new ways to resource movements for justice.

Movement Building

Focusing our resources on building power to win a just society.

Investment

Knowing the time and resources we commit now will shape our collective future.

Joy

Bringing celebration and connection to the work of resourcing movements.

Resource Organzing Project is an offering of Movement Sustainability Commons.

MSC offers affordable and high quality services, practices, spaces, and pathways that support both interdependence and self-reliance for community self-determination. We aspire to co-create an off-ramp to the non-profit industrial complex that frees people and groups to work cooperatively with emergence, imagination and a focus on living their purpose and sharing their gifts.

As an “Offering” of Movement Sustainability Commons, ROP isn’t only fiscally sponsored by MSC – it’s our organizational home. We look to MSC for financial management and support with staying true to our values and purpose. In exchange, we engage in MSC’s shared governance and partner with MSC staff and offerings to build movement infrastructure in our region.
